The Kenton KY - Campbell KY Morgans

Because Nathan Morgan 1778 VA and Enoch Morgan 1776-77 VA (only one year apart in births and born both in VA) and were both on Campbell Co KY in 1800, I wonder if they were related. Nathan Morgan moved across the river to Cleremont Ohio about 1810-1812.  Nathan Morgan descends from the illustrious family of Welsh Baptists who settled in Delaware and Philadelphia and were ministers in the 1st Welsh Baptist Meeting/Church in the Colonies.

Morgans in early Clark County Kentucky (Bourbon Co/Campbell Co/Kenton Co)

Esther or Hester, widow of --?-- Morgan married William Myers 6 Oct 1794 (bond). At the same time she gave her daughter Margaret Morgan permission to marry John Faris (Phares).

On 3 June 1797 Esther (Hester) stated that her daughter Rachel Morgan [b ca 1777]was of age to act for herself. This was when her daughter Rachel married Moses Hampton. [This couple had at least 7 children and there doesn't seem to be even one online tree about them on Ancestry, Roosweb or anywhere!] [2 children are
Morgan Hampton and Hester Hampton b. 11 Feb 1805, d. 10 Oct 1876. Rachel Morgan lived in 1860 in Jamestown, Boone County, Indiana, in the household of William M. Baber, who was undoubtedly her grandson, as her daughter Hester was also a member of the household.]
The 1820 Clark Co., KY Census shows Moses as white male over 45
His household consisted of:
1 female 26-44
2 males 16-25
1 female 16-25
1 male 16-18
2 females 10-15
1 male under 10

On 18 April 1810 Enoch Morgan married Renis Morgan. They show up in Brown Co., OH on the 1850 census  in the same township as George Hampton in Brown> Co., OH on the 1850 census.

A Rennis Faris, b. abt 1820 was living in the household of John Faris and his wife Margaret, probably their daughter, perhaps indicating some relationship between Margaret and the Renis Morgan who married Enoch Morgan. Enoch Morgan was born circa 1779.2 He and Rennis Morgan filed their intention to marry on 17 April 1810 in Clark County, Kentucky. William Myers (step-father of Margaret Morgan and Rachel Morgan) posted bond and affirmed that Renis Morgan was 21 years old. Included with the bond was a note signed by Renis asking that a license be issued. Joel Farmer witnessed the bond.3 Enoch Morgan married Rennis Morgan on 18 April 1810 in Clark County, Kentucky.1 Enoch Morgan died on 22 May 1870 in Clermont County, Ohio.2 He was buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Felicity, Clermont County, Ohio.2

Evan Morgan (b 3 March 1769 VA d IL son of John Morgan)
Jesse Morgan (a wild guess is that he is related to Enoch Morgan who married Renis Morgan and not of the same line as John Morgan)
John Morgan (b 1748 VA d 1803 VA son of Thomas Morgan who died 1779 Berkley VA)
John Morgan Jr (b ca 1777 died April 27, 1853 in Marion, Williamson County, Illinois, son of John Morgan)
Ralph Morgan was coming and going at this time
Wiliam Myers  (who later married widow Esther Morgan, step daughters Margaret, Rachel and Renis who married Enoch Morgan who died in Clermont OH)

On the 1st of April, 1775, Daniel Boone, Richard Henderson and their companions, reached the southern bank of the Kentucky River, and began to build a fort, afterwards known as Boonesborough. For the next 20 years Morgans were born near there in old Bourbon Co. VA which became partially Campbell KY which became Kenton Co and Clark Co KY which is where Boone's Station is- the fort.

Looks like Renis (Hester's 2nd husband signed that she could marry), Margaret (Hester signed that she could marry) and Rachel were Morgans with a mother Esther Morgan widowed by 1794 who remarried William Myers. The names of those persons and/or families known to have resided late 1700s in or near the Fort Boonesborough and Boone Station area follow: John MORGAN, Ralph MORGAN (b ca 1738- d ca 1809 Greensburg, Decatur Co, IN, William MORGAN, Jacob MYERS

"Ralph Morgan had four children as far as the writer can ascertain: Abel born March 14, 1786 died July 16, 1863, Rolla, Sarah and Priscilla who married brothers - John and William McCullough, and from these have sprung large numbers of descendants of this name, a number of whom reside in the vicinity of Westport, Indiana.  Ralph Morgan founded Morgan's Station in VA in what became Montgomery Co., Kentucky.  His son Abel married Sarah Howard, had five children, to-wit: Lydia Morgan, Ralph Morgan, Julia Morgan, Olevia Morgan and Martha Morgan. Lydia married Patrick Ewing; Ralph never married; Julian, born April 18th, 1815, married Samuel Gates Daily; Olevia married, first Killis McGinnis, second, Jesse Green, and third, Abel Anderson; and Martha married James King. Abel Morgan's wife, Sarah Howard, died about the year 1821. Later he married a second wife, but they disagreed and he became dissipated and squandered his entire means left him by his father, Ralph Morgan. He hadn't the slightest idea of values, but bartered his lands for mere trifles."

25 Feb 1791 there exists a complaint made in Bourbon County KY against Ralph Morgan by James Littel concerning an unpaid debt.  A relative- son or nephew- Ralph L. Morgan was born Mar 3 1789 - Woodrough Creek, Bourbon, Kentucky died Feb 14 1869 - Sonora, Atchison, Missouri  and was the father of William Morgan; John Morgan, Jr.; Isaac Morgan; Elizabeth Lemmons; Evan Morgan; Sarah Martin; Thomas Morgan; Martha King; Ruth Boyer/Lamme; Ralph Morgan and Jonathan Morgan.

David Morgan married in the year 1735 and had two sons by his first wife; Charles Rolla Morgan, born in 1736 and Ralph Morgan in 1738. their mother died in the year 1743. After the death of his wife, David with his two sons, returned to his mother's house, his father having died in the year 1741. The two sons of David obtained a fair education; the youngest, Ralph, fitting himself for the vocation of a surveyor. (see English's History N.W.) David Morgan by his last wife, had nine children, the oldest named Zachariah Morgan, also David and Daniel that we have an account of, also a sister, Sarah, who married Robert McIlvaine, who in turn had eleven children, and large numbers of this name are found in West Moreland and Washington county, Pennsylvania, descendants from this family. We find Zachariah, the oldest, commanding a small company in the Battle of Point Pleasant in October 1774. The son, David went to Kentucky, and at the time of his death, 1813, represented Floyd county in the State Legislature. The son Daniel emigrated to North Carolina and thence to Alabama. It is probable that General John H. Morgan of confederate fame, who is said to be a distant relative of General Daniel Morgan, descended from one of the sons of David Morgan, very probably from the son Daniel, as he emigrated to the locality where the confederate chieftain was born. Zachariah Morgan emigrated to Madison county, Kentucky, in 1786 (See Collins Ky. Vol 2). Charles Rolla Morgan served under General Clark in the Kaskaskia, and Vincennes Expedition, with the rank of Sergeant, and was allotted land in the Clarke Grant. David's 2nd wife was Mrs. Peperill, whose maiden name was Menafee, her husband having been killed by the Indians four months after her first marriage. The Morgans were at this time living at Will's Creek Settlement, a few miles from Fort Cumberland.

In neighboring Bourbon Co., there was another Enoch Morgan. He married Mary Stephens (Stevens) on 19 Jul 1796 in Bourbon Co. They were in Clark and Kenton Co., KY census 1810- 1850. In 1780, Kentucky County, Virginia, was divided into three counties of Virginia: Fayette, Jefferson, and Lincoln, called the District of Kentucky. Formed in 1786 from Fayette County, Bourbon County, Virginia, originally comprised 34 northeastern counties of Kentucky's 120 current ones, including the current Bourbon County.[7][8][9] The area later became known as Old Bourbon in reference to its historical expanse.

Later censuses in KY, IN and OH show Virginia as the birthplace of these Morgans, except for Margaret. The 1850 census shows her place of birth as Maryland, but that could be incorrect.

Wyatt Morgan was born Feb. 9, 1829 on a farm in rural Kenton County, Ky. He was the son of William Morgan (1805-1879) and Mary Edwards (1810-1881).

In the 1850 Census, Wyatt was listed as a blacksmith and he was living with a family named Nicholson. They were living in Independence, Ky. Mr. Nicholson was also listed as a blacksmith.

Wyatt married Almida Bravard (1835-1861) on Aug. 5, 1852 in Kenton County, Ky. She was the daughter of John Bravard (1797-1843) and Mary Timberlake (1800-1850). They were married Dec. 7, 1820 in Campbell County, Ky. (Kenton became a county in 1840, it was originally a part of Campbell County). The Bravard's were from Fleming County, Ky. Mary Timberlake was born in Campbell County, Ky.

Wyatt and Almida had two sons: John William Morgan (1853-1885) and Napoleon
Grant Morgan (1856-1892).

Almida died young on Sept. 20, 1861 at the age of 26. There is a Bravard Cemetery on Trace Run Road off of Moffett Road in rural Kenton County, Ky. William Morgan (Wyatt's father) is buried there, and other Bravard relatives are also buried there. There is no stone for Almida. It is assumed that she was buried in the Bravard Cemetery.

John William Morgan was 8 and Napoleon was 6 when their mother died. On April 24, 1864 Wyatt Morgan married Mary Ann Lambert (1844- 1922). The Lamberts were neighbors in rural Kenton County. Their father had come from Ireland to Boone County, Ky. and then to Covington and then to rural Kenton County. Mary Ann was the third child of 15. Their father, John Lambert (1816-1893) converted from the Catholic religion to Baptist. He gave the land for Oak Island Baptist Church. The Church was the center for neighbors meeting neighbors and several marriages arose from the social gatherings at the Church.
Wyatt and Mary Ann Lambert Morgan had three children: Walter Lee Morgan (1866-1927), Emma Dora Morgan (1868-1933) and Edith Beatrice Morgan (1883-1949).

In the 1870 Census they are listed: Wyatt Morgan 42, Mary A. 27, John W. 17, Napoleon G. 14, Walter 4 and Emma 2. (Edith wasn't been born yet). They were living in rural Kenton County.

Wyatt Morgan died in 1891. In 1891, many burials were on farms and the stones are gone. The burial location for Wyatt is unknown.

The 1900 Census shows Mary Lambert Morgan (55) a widow and her daughter Edith B. Morgan (14) living in Covington, Ky. with Richard M. Lambert and family (a cousin of Mary's).

The 1910 Census shows Mary Lambert Morgan (65) living in Covington with her nephew, John Lambert Rich and his family.

The 1920 Census shows Mary Lambert Morgan (75) living in Covington, Ky. with her granddaughter Alice Carlisle Morris (1888-1970) and her two children. She was the daughter of Mary's son Walter Lee Morgan.

Mary Lambert Morgan died on May 16, 1922 in rural Kenton County, Ky. She is buried in the Independence cemetery with her daughter Emma Dora Morgan Hoffman (1868-1930) and four other family members.

Double Cousins (Lamberts and Morgans)

John Lambert (1816-1893) and Mary Walker (1819- ) had 15 children. He came from Ireland with several brothers. Mary Walker came from Pennsylvania. They married on Jan 3, 1841 in East Bend in Boone County, Ky. They had 15 children of which 4 were infant deaths. Laura Francis Lambert was number 11 of 15. She was born in Covington, Ky. on May 3, 1856. In the late 1850's the Lambert's moved to a farm in rural Kenton County next to the Morgan family.

John William Morgan married Laura Francis Lambert on December 14, 1872. Laura was 16.  Her oldest sister, Mary Ann Lambert (1844-1922) married John Williams dad Wyatt Morgan (1829-1891) m. 1864 and had three children with him (Walter 1866, Emma 1868, and Edith 1883).

John and Laura Lambert Morgan had five children: Wallie Milton Morgan (1874-1948), Charles Otis Morgan (1877-1951), Jessie Morgan Barry (1882-1974), Edna (1880-1881), and Grover Cleveland Morgan (1884-1936).

John Morgan died of typhoid in 1895, leaving Laura a widow with four small children. It is not known as to where they were buried. No headstones have been located on the family farm.
Napoleon Grant Morgan (1856-1892) was the second son of Wyatt and Almida Bravard Morgan. He married Sallie Stagg (1855-1940) in Harrodsburg, Mercer County, Ky. They had six children; Mary Ann Morgan (1878-1969), Nannie Morgan (1880-1957), Russell Morgan (1883-1887), Matilda Morgan (1885-1971), Leon Morgan (1888-1961), and Fred Morgan (1891-1963). Napoleon and Sallie Stagg Morgan are buried at Spring Hill Cemetery in Harrodsburg, Ky.

Good info on Boone/Morgan Morgan family who moved from PA to NC-
http://www.data-wales.co.uk/boone2.htm
"In the Spring of 1750 we see the whole Boone family (save two sons) with their wives and children, household goods and stock on the great highway bound for a land where the hot heart and belligerent spirit shall not be held amiss. They moved from Pennsylvania to Rowen County, N.C. Squire Boone died in his 65th year in 1764 and was buried in Rowen County at the fork of Yadkin River about ten miles above the fork on a place called Burning Rigg; his wife, Sarah (Morgan) Boone died in the 72nd year in 1776 and was buried beside her husband."

"Squire Boone's granddaughter Jane Boone, born Sept. 18, 1762, died Dec 1, 1812, was the daughter of Edward and Martha (Bryan) Boone. She married Morgan Morgan, born Sept 10, 1760 died Mar 18, 1835. (Ref Family Bible)

"The Morgan family moved from Virginia to Kentucky and were among the first white settlers of that territory in about the year 1775 or 1780 and remained in Kentucky until 1800, thence removed to the Spanish Territory known as Louisiana and settled on Bluff Creek, now the Parish of East Feliciana. The family that came from Kentucky to Louisiana were as follows:
Two brothers, Morgan Morgan and John Morgan and two sisters, Sarah Morgan and Nancy Morgan."
